Walker Fire UK Ltd is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy. This policy outlines our approach to measuring, managing and reducing our carbon footprint in line with national targets for Net Zero emissions by 2050 and relevant UK Government expectations.

This policy applies to all operations and activities carried out by Walker Fire UK Ltd, including office operations, vehicle fleet use, business travel and service delivery at client sites

Legal and Regulatory Context

The UK Government has committed to reducing the net UK carbon account to zero by 2050, a target enshrined in the Climate Change Act 2008 and reflected in updated procurement guidance requiring many suppliers to develop and publish Carbon Reduction Plans when bidding for major public contracts.

The Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) framework requires certain large companies to disclose energy use and emissions data in annual reports. Whilst Walker Fire UK Ltd may not be in scope for SECR at this time, we adopt the principles of transparent measurement and improvement as part of good environmental practice.

Where relevant (e.g., when bidding for government contracts valued at over £5 million), the Company will prepare and publish a Carbon Reduction Plan consistent with Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 006.

Walker Fire UK Ltd aims to:

  • Measure and report its greenhouse gas emissions (including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions where possible) annually.
  • Set practical carbon reduction targets and track progress.
  • Reduce energy use and emissions from all business activities, including offices, transport and equipment.
  • Improve efficiency through low-carbon technologies and behavioural change.
  • Engage employees and stakeholders in supporting decarbonisation efforts.

The Company will:

Establish a baseline measurement of its carbon emissions (electricity, fuels, fleet fuel use and other significant sources).
• Identify which emissions the Company can measure and reduce, and set out relevant indicators.
• Report carbon data internally on an annual basis, and externally if required by contractual obligations or public commitments.

Where required for procurement purposes, develop and Publish a Carbon Reduction Plan showing:
Current emissions footprint,
Short- and medium-term reduction targets,
Planned actions to achieve reductions,
Alignment with UK net zero commitments.

Carbon Reduction Actions

Energy Efficiency

• Monitor and reduce energy use in offices and depots through efficiency improvements.
• Switch to low-energy lighting and equipment.
• Promote responsible use of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Fleet and Travel

• Improve vehicle fuel efficiency and adopt low-emission transport options where practical.
• Encourage efficient route planning and reduce unnecessary travel.
• Investigate opportunities to transition to hybrid or electric vehicles when replacing fleet vehicles.

Procurement and Suppliers

• Consider carbon performance when procuring goods and services.
• Engage suppliers in carbon reduction where suppliers’ emissions significantly contribute to Walker Fire
UK Ltd’s footprint.

Awareness and Training

• Raise awareness of carbon reduction across all employees.
• Encourage carbon-aware behaviours (e.g., switching off equipment, reducing waste).

  • Walker Fire UK Ltd will review its carbon inventory and set reduction targets appropriate for the Company’s size, scope and sector.
  • Targets will be regularly reviewed and updated to reflect progress, technological developments and regulatory changes.
  • Progress against targets will be monitored annually and reported to senior management.
